The successes of the last few days have caused me to re-evaluate my worldview. Saddam is captured; Libya is giving up its weapons of mass destruction; the economy seems to be turning around. Maybe the neocons are right. Maybe what we just needed to do was find one of these two-bit dictators who threatened us with their crazed propaganda about the Mother of all blah blah blahs, and how we are the great yada yada yada; kick their countries ass; and make the world tremble before us. Maybe we need the catharis of stomping some dictator into a hold in the ground and making him beg for his life across the river from one of his great palaces. Saddam may not have had anything to do with 9-11; but he hated us just the same. Maybe we can cut taxes and spend our way out of this recession. Maybe we are in a liquidity trap and teetering on the edge of deflation. Maybe with too few soldiers and not enough Arabic speakers the government can build a democracy in Iraq.

So lets look closer at the successes of the last few days:
1. Saddam -- it's great we got him; absolutely awesome. I hated Saddam. I had very mixed feelings about the war. On the other hand Saddam doesn't appear to have been much of an immediate threat to us. For a guy who idealized Hitler and Stalin he really turned out to be a giant pussy. Where was the blaze of glory? We were expecting to round up Butch Cassidy, or some other outlaw; instead we get "I surrender, please get me a shower and a breath mint." This was worth all the time, lives, and treasure?

2. Libya -- Clinton and his folks were talking with Libya long before George and the gang got involved. Gaddafi has been moderating his views for years. Since the Lockerbie bombers were handed over 4 years ago Libya has wanted to do this kind of deal;; read the below the fold comments in this article in the Washington Post if you doubt me. This is one of those things we could do at anytime; and I guess we picked today. Still I'm not sure we're safer for it. I mean great Weapons Inspectors are going to go in. Are these the same weapons inspectors that went after Iraq. Oh wait, I see now we realize that the weapons inspections actually worked, and its just our crappy intel that makes us believe otherwise. Well at least we learned one thing from Gulf War II.

In fact in conclusion we learn from the last two days that all the pundits were wrong and that pretty much Howard Dean was right. Inspections work. Saddam is a bad guy; but one who is interested ultimately in his own neck; and not a powermad lunatic.
Speaking of power mad lunatics. What's up with Kim Jong Il of North Korea. Oh thats right talks have broken down and he's threatening us with Nukes AGAIN. Oh and that guy Osama, what's he doing...What's that you say your not sure but something about suicide bombers on New Years.

Bush's numbers are up in the polls; whoohoo go us; go George. I close today with a prayer, "God, why are people so fucking stupid."
