How many whales died to make that newspaper.

Today's Editorial in the Washington Post has me ranting. What's so special about whales? Global warming will likely kill the polar bears, the Emporer Penguins, and many other polar species. It is the biggest environmental crisis of our times; and the threat to polar species is the "optomistic view." The Post though, wants us to focus on a few cetaceans; as if some kind of regulated whaling was the biggest problem we face. Fine lets save the damn whales....again. The International Whaling Commision seems inaccessible to the ordinary person. I'm not getting on one of those dingies the greenpeace folks use. What can I do to help save the whales?

The Post bothers to put god knows how much carbon into the atmostphere as it makes paper, runs its presses from coal powered plants, delivers its paper to doorstops via gas powered trucks. All this carbon is going into the atmosphere, being absorbed by the oceans, and then turning into carbonic acid, which is slowly but steadily raising the acidity of the oceans (something like .4 ph in the next 100 years). This process will kill all the whales; if the changing ocean currents and tempurature rise doesn't kill their food and starve them out first. The Post complaining about the Japanese is like a pryomanic complaining about a lumberjack; while dousing a forest with gasoline and tossing in lit matches.

So you want to save the whales cancel your subscription to the Post; and tell them you won't resubcribe until they commit to being carbon neutral. While your at it, reduce your personal carbon footprint.
